My Journey of Cultivation

Greetings Master, greetings fellow practitioners,

My name is Boen, and I am thirteen years old. I have been a practitioner since I was born because my Mom and Grandparents are all practitioners. When I was younger, sometimes I woke up, I would see colorful spinning circles above my head. At first, I was not sure what it was, and as I got older my Mom told me that it was the Falun emblem rotating above my head. At that time, I did not take practicing seriously until we came to the U.S. in 2010. This is when I started to read Fa with my Mom and do Dafa exercises with her. Today I am going to share with you some stories of mine about why and how I look inside myself in times of trouble, how my life changed after I became more involved with Falun Dafa, and how I got rid of many attachments.

  1. My Way Home

When I was little, I was not clear on what cultivation meant to me. I knew Dafa was good, Zhen-Shan-Ren is good, I just followed my Mom into cultivation and read Fa and did exercises with her, but I never thought about why I should practice Dafa. One day on the way home after the weekly group Fa study, Mom asked me why I wanted to cultivate. Without thinking, I said “I want to go home with Master. I don’t belong to this human society; I don’t want to be in the six-fold path of reincarnation”. At that moment I felt I was awakened. I found my way home, I realized how serious cultivation is, and how lucky I am to be a Dafa practitioner. From that moment on I decided I should cultivate more diligently. I started to practice almost every day. Once I became more dedicated, I started to witness the changes in my life, and I felt like everything was getting better. Today I would like to share some changes with you.

Several years ago, my math skills were very bad. It frustrated my Mom so much when she checked my math homework every day. I could not even do simple math calculations. For example, my Mom asked me if one pencil was $3, then how much would it cost for two pencils? My answer was $5. My Mom was desperate about my math. After becoming more diligent in cultivation, now I feel that math is so easy for me, and my grades are all As. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in elementary school, so I was easily distracted by everything. Since I can now sit in meditation longer and longer, I can concentrate on one thing longer and longer.

Before we moved in 2019, I could not read Zhuan Falun in Chinese, and I only could read about 20% of the Chinese characters in the book. My Mom encouraged me to read the Chinese version in our local group Fa study, and a practitioner aunty in our area offered her help. She has been reading Fa with me for half an hour every weekday since then. In less than half a year I can now read 80% of the whole book, and I can read in Chinese with the practitioners in our group Fa study now.

I have a big dream of going to Shen Yun to play French horn. I have been practicing with my private teacher for about half a year and I have improved a lot. Master said in “Teaching the Fa in the City of Los Angeles”,

“From the day that a Dafa disciple takes up cultivation his whole life is rearranged. In other words, this life of yours is now the life of a cultivator. Nothing is by chance anymore, and nothing will happen just by chance. Everything on your life’s journey is directly related to your improvement and cultivation.” It is under the blessing of Master and Dafa that I can experience the power of Dafa.

  1. Getting Rid of Attachments

As teenagers, many of us can get hooked by the videos on YouTube, the interesting messages and videos that our friends send us on social media, or any games that are in the AppStore. We can sit there for hours just looking at a screen. One day I saw my Dad watching a TV show. It attracted me, and there were a lot of episodes, so once I started watching I was hooked. Each episode was about forty minutes or so, and I would watch about maybe five episodes a day, until my eyes started to get swollen. The more I watched, the worse my eyes would get. I realized that this was too strong of an attachment and I had to get rid of this, but I still had a hard time to get rid of it, even though I knew that Master already showed me a warning to stop. My Mom asked me to send righteous thoughts in front of Master’s picture.

On the same day, the aunty and I were reading Lecture Six of Zhuan Falun, when I read,

“The very people who they portray fighting and killing over worldly things like a swordsmanship manual, treasure, or a certain lady always have fantastic powers, coming and going like a shadow…When you see supernormal heroes with those traits, it is the product of writers taking artistic license; they know that consumers just want whatever is stimulating and will not object. Writers often seize on this fact and do whatever they can to meet the demand. And the more incredible the story is, the more readers or viewers go for it. So, it really comes down to writers taking artistic license with things.”

That was exactly what the TV show was about. I suddenly felt that the TV show was nothing, and I was not interested anymore, and then my eyes were back to normal.

I realized that reading Fa is so important, like Master taught in the piece “Drive Out Interference”, Essentials for Further Advancement II,

“The Fa can break all attachments, the Fa can destroy all evil, the Fa can shatter all lies, and the Fa can strengthen righteous thoughts.”

I am so thankful to the aunty’s help and I thank Master for purifying me with the great Dafa.

  1. An Issue about Raising Pets

Since I am the only child in my family, I always wanted to have a pet to accompany me so I would not feel lonely. However, my Mom said practitioners should not raise pets. My Dad wanted to surprise me on New Year’s Day this year, so he bought me two Guinea pigs. I was so happy, and I fed them and talked to them every day.

One day the aunty practitioner shared with me a story which Master once told us about a Brahman disciple who was practicing alone in the mountains. At the beginning, he was very diligent. One day, he saved an injured deer. Since he felt lonely, he then raised this deer. As time went by, the deer became his best friend and he slacked off in his cultivation. After the deer died, he still couldn’t let go. At the end of his life, he didn’t think of cultivation but thought of the deer. As a result, he reincarnated into a deer in his next life. I was scared, and I told my Mom, “I don’t want to be a Guinea pig for the next life, I don’t want to have a next life.”

The aunty sent me some of Master’s lectures about this issue. I was impressed with one piece that Master said in “Teaching the Fa at the Law Conference in Houston”,

“‘Not bringing them up’ has two points. One is that when [a person is] cultivating it’s easy for the animal to obtain numinous powers (ling). It’s possible they will do much wrong the instant they obtain numinous powers. In China there is an old saying: “becoming a spirit.” Animals are not allowed to cultivate. Another thing is that raising these things takes a lot of care. It will be distracting, and thinking about it is an attachment and will affect cultivation. Of course, for cultivators being fond of animals is also an attachment.”

After I read that, I decided to give the Guinea pigs away, and I don’t have a desire to have any pets anymore.

  1. Looking Within

One morning after I finished most of my homework and I wanted a five-minute break, I took my Mom’s iPad and started watching videos on YouTube. Once I started, I was hooked, and I kept watching. Each video I watched looked better than the last, so I kept going. My Mom called me four times before I finally gave the iPad in. My dad got angry and punished me for not doing what I was supposed to do. At first, I was unhappy, and I thought, “I was only taking a break, why should I be punished”. I kept thinking how I should not have gotten this punishment and how this was not my fault at all. My Mom reminded me why I should look inside. Still, I had an attitude and kept saying I should not be punished, I shouldn’t be punished, it’s all his fault I’m doing this. The more I thought like this, the more my family got upset.

At last I tried to look inside and find what I really did wrong. I looked inside, and after I did, not only did my attitude get better but also, I felt like the problem really was my fault. If you are in trouble, do not waste your time to argue or explain why you shouldn’t be in trouble. Think of a way to fix this problem, look and really think about what you did wrong. If someone yells at you or even hits you, and you do not have any bad thoughts or hatred in your mind, your xinxing will improve. Once your xinxing improves, it is always important to move forward with the problem fixed and not fall back. I realized and understood something important that day: how you think will be how you act, the way you think about someone, whether it’s bad or good, that person can tell right away. Someone can tell by the way you talk, or even from your facial expression. It is important for us to always remember that we are cultivating ourselves in all kinds of troubles. There will always be problems, and it is all up to us to decide how to handle the problem. I apologized to my dad for my attitude and arguing, and everything got better. My xinxing improved and I finished all my punishment quickly. The rest of the day was like nothing happened at all. Looking within is a Dafa tool that Master has given to us practitioners.

Master said in “Teaching the Fa in San Francisco, 2005”,

“Cultivators look at things in just the opposite way. They see tribulations and suffering as good opportunities for improvement. [To cultivators] these are all good things, and the more there are and the faster they come, the faster the improvement. Some cultivators want to push them away and think, ‘Don’t come.’ Whenever [conflicts and turmoil] come up they think that others have a problem with them, and they can’t stand it when others say anything negative about them. You just want to live a more pleasant life, but is that cultivation? Can you really cultivate that way? If to this day you still cannot come around on this concept, then as your master, I don’t know how you will ever move towards Consummation.”

My cultivation state is often reflected in my daily life. When I study Fa harder and conduct myself according to the Fa, Master would encourage me by opening my wisdom and allow me to achieve more. I know my cultivation is far from the requirements of the Fa. I will do my best to be a good Dafa disciple.

Thank you, Master, for your mercy and salvation!

  1. Mi camino a casa

He estado practicando con mi profesor particular durante medio año y he mejorado mucho.

Algunos cultivadores quieren apartarlas y piensan, “no vengan”.
